Hello, Community members.

As you’ve probably seen by now, in this quarter's Sales Navigator Product release, we've announced the newest CRM Custom Field Mapping feature available for admins.

Below, we will be walking you through CRM Custom Field Mapping and how you can leverage this new feature.

*Important note:These features are only available for Advanced Plus customers with CRM Sync enabled. CRM Sync requires Salesforce Sales Cloud or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales.

Benefits of CRM Custom Field Mapping

CRM Custom Field Mapping enhances the flexibility of your CRM Integration by greatly improving the matching capabilities of Sales Navigator. The tool allows users to map standard fields within Sales Navigator to either standard or custom created fields within your CRM.

You can map one custom CRM field with only one LinkedIn entity. You can map fields for all features - writeback, contact, lead creation, account, and so on. Modifying field mapping will trigger an ingestion and it may take up to 2 days for the data to refresh.

CRM Custom Field Mapping provides greater CRM sync flexibility by allowing admins to customize how they map fields between their CRM and Sales Navigator, which ultimately results in accurately mapped fields and increased match rates.

How to Leverage CRM Custom Field Mapping

Step 1

Navigate to the CRM admin settings and select “CRM Mapping” on the left rail of the page underneath Production . The tab will load all of the admins current mappings and the user can make any changes by clicking the “Edit” button.

Step 2

CRM Custom Field Mapping 2

Once the admin clicks “Edit” they will be provided with the following screen to go make all of their desired changes. The admin will be presented with a dropdown list in the “CRM field” column, and they will be able to map any field in their CRM to the correct field in Sales Navigator.

You can learn more about this new features with our Help Center article and, in case you face any difficulties, you can go through this article on how to troubleshoot Custom Field Mapping errors.

If you are CRM Sync, we would love to hear from you on what your initial thoughts and insights are on the CRM Custom Field Mapping.

Additionally, as always, if you have additional ideas for any product improvement, please submit them via the Community's Ideas page, which you can find on the Community's top navigation bar.

Thank you,

Nádia

Hey guys,

I am seeing this as a pretty high level overview. We have tried to set this up and no information seems to be syncing between our mapped fields. Have the following questions:

  • how do we know if information is syncing for mapped fields? There is no "Toggle on/off" button
  • is information transfer always bi-directional?
  • how often does or should information sync?
  • our Production field mappings set already has values that are there seemingly by default. Does this mean information has already synced between sales nav and salesforce?

Cheers!

Zac

Hi @Z B,

Welcome to the Sales Navigator Community! 😊 Watch our Getting Started Videos that help new members find resources, navigate the platform, and become more advanced members. Feel free to check out our List of Resources for more links and top Community threads as well.

These are such great questions, and I'm glad to hear you are trying the latest CRM Custom Field Mapping feature for Sales Navigator Admins. Here are my answers:

  1. Once you click 'Confirm' or 'Save' after making changes, the custom fields and data should be saved. If there is no error message, that means the flow of information is not interrupted.
  2. I believe the flow of information goes from Sales Navigator to your CRM as this feature allows users to map standard fields in Sales Navigator to standard or custom created fields in your CRM.
  3. As listed in the post, it may take up to 48 hours for the data to reflect in your CRM.
  4. Yes, I believe so. Sales Navigator looks at certain fields in your CRM to determine the correct matching, and some fields are actively used (the "default" fields, I believe). Take a look at this Help article for more information on the matching logic.

I hope this answered your questions. If not, I'd recommend reading through this Help article for further explanation and let me know if you need more help.

Thank you,

Eva C.

Thanks for your reply Eva,

Is it possible to push values in the fields from Linkedin to our CRM, or is the mapping customisation there purely to allow for better matching of records?

Imagine we have an Account/Account match (Linkedin determined it as a match due to the same website, company name and business address being in our CRM and on Sales navigator).

With this match being accurate, we would want to collect and push other data that Linkedin may have on the Account, into our CRM, such as employee numbers, business phone, email & fax.

Is that possible?

Kind regards,

Zac

Hi Zac @Z B,

Thanks for following up!

To answer the first part, you can push values from Sales Navigator fields to your CRM as long as the field exists in Sales Navigator. Essentially, you have the ability to choose which field in your CRM you want a Sales Navigator field should match to. For example, you can push "Email Address" in Sales Navigator to "Email" (or something else you want) in your CRM even though the fields are not the same name/title.

For the second part, if LinkedIn Sales Navigator has fields for "employee numbers," "business phone," and etc., the Admin can choose/customize which field in your CRM they should map to.

Does this answer your question? Hope this helps and let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you,

Eva C.

Is there any way to edit Activity mapping? We have "Log InMails" enabled and it is writing the activities back to SFDC but I need some identifier to be able to differentiate these activities as LinkedIn InMails so that I can report on them across the org.

Hi @Justin G,

Welcome to the Sales Navigator Community! 😊 Watch our Getting Started Videos to help new members navigate the platform and become more advanced members. Check out our List of Resources for how to find top Community resources, share product feedback, and more as well.

That's a great question, and I believe this is different from the CRM Custom Field Mapping feature here. Currently, once an activity within LinkedIn or Sales Navigator is logged in your CRM (through Activity Writeback), I don't believe there is an automatic way to differentiate these activities from LinkedIn or Sales Navigator. There might be a manual way for users to note that on their own, or the Salesforce Admin might be able to set that up as a customized rule/setting.

I'd check in Salesforce first to see if that's possible. If not, feel free to suggest this as an idea to our Ideas page. I hope this helped and let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you,

Eva C.

Hi @Nadia Vieira, thanks for sharing this update! The custom CRM mapping is very helpful. We'd also love to map custom CRM fields to user inputs (instead of LinkedIn attributes). For example, on the Create new contact pop-up, allowing the user to select a value from a Contact Role picklist and writing that value to the new SFDC contact.
