Cold calling or emails can be a challenging selling tactic, but with the right steps or tools – for example InMail - you can still reach an abundance of contacts and achieve results. Did you know that a LinkedIn InMail is 3 times more likely to get a response than a standard email?

The key factor is to make those messages less cold by developing context, familiarity, and an understanding of the prospect’s needs. Here are 5 strategies that will help you achieve that:

  1. Effective Attention-Getter: Start by calling out something about their last updates on LinkedIn.com, any common connection or latest news related to their company.
  2. Friendly Introduction: Identify yourself immediately and quickly explain the purpose of the contact.
  3. Customized Value Proposition: Any time you can offer a free resource, with no expectation of reciprocation, you’ll increase your chances of a response.
  4. Conversational Tone: Try to seem friendly and brief, but always professional.
  5. Position Yourself as a Listener: Leave the door open for them to do most of the writing or ask further details.

If you follow this suggestions to introduce yourself to a potential customer, you’ll warm up any InMail and increase the odds of getting a positive answer back.

We would love to know what are the key strategies you’re using to warm up an InMail and if you saw any increase in replies after putting them in practice.

Looking forward to know how you are warming up those InMails.

Thanks,

Nádia

@Nadia Vieira in my InMail deep dive workshop I encourage our users to follow the InMail Success Formula:

  • Subject Line: Make it interesting and show that you've done your homework
  • Personalize the message: Grab their attention though a personalized, social approach aligning with the subject line. We must stay away from bait + switch techniques
  • Introduce yourself: Who are you and why are you reaching out
  • Compelling information: Incorporate the wow-factor or an element of personal interest
  • Call to action: What's the next step? Be clear about what you want your prospect to do next.

And most importantly, get to the point and be succinct in your message. Shoot for 150 words or less. Do you like to scroll through a lengthy message? Likely no. Do you think your prospect would be any different?

@Tamika B, I love this InMail magic formula! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. 😍

I think you covered everything that will make an InMail message stand out. I honestly believe that if people follow your recommendations they will increase their response rate, and the best thing about it is that by getting an InMail reply, they will be receiving an InMail credit back. Win-win, right?

I would only add that in the compelling information it's crucial to address your buyer's needs before they have shared them with you. This is part of doing your homework (just like you said in the subject line), since by getting to know them better, you will be able to put their needs first and share how you can help them and their business.
