Hello, everyone.

Hope you’ve had a well-rested weekend and are ready to kick-off your week!

And, what’s the best way to start a new week? With an interesting discussion that will help you find out how your Virtual Selling peers are leveraging a feature like, for example, Smart Links.

As you’ve probably seen by now, last week we started a Community thread for everything you need to know about Smart Links, as an effort to inform you on the key things you should be aware of, as well, as help you understand how you take the most out of this Sales Navigator’s feature.

Today, after reading that post and finding out how you can use Smart Links, I’m looking to find out how you’re leveraging this tool in order to get a closer customer relationship.

If you’re still trying to figure this out I can share my 2 cents and let you know how I’ve seen others using it. For example, during the last couple of months, I’ve seen some users leveraging this feature for all customer & lead follow-ups. I can understand how this can be a great use of Smart Links, since it will allow the seller to understand when the potential or actual customer engages with specific content, how many times they’ve open a certain Smart Link and determine the best time to engage based not that. This will allow SN users to build a closer customer relationship, as they’ll be better informed on how the readers are engaging with what they sent them and prepare better for future meetings and/or deals.

This said, I’d love to understand how you’ve been using Smart Links with your customers and if you’ve have any tips for new SN users who’re still learning about this platform and Smart Links.

Can’t wait to hear from you!

Cheers,

Nádia

Hi Nadia,

I am start starting with the usage of SN Smartlinks. But I am already running into a problem: When posting a smartlink as a personal contribution, containing a single PDF, linkedin does not copy the image from the first page of my pdf, as one would expect, but linkedin replaces this image for a standard graphic cartoon drawing of some people working in an office. Do you know why this happens and what can be done about it? Regards, Roland.

Hi, @Roland v.

I'm happy to hear that you're starting to use Smart Links.

Answering your question, at the moment, when you post a Smart Link on LinkedIn.com, a generic thumbnail image will be added automatically. Unfortunately, there's no option to change that image and that's why the cartoon image gets added.

We already have an idea here in the Community suggesting to add this option in future iterations of Smart Links. If this is something you'd like to have, I would recommend you to visit our ideas page, look for the idea entitled ''the ability to change (or even remove) the thumbnail image when sending a Smart Link'' and either upvote or leave a comment letting us know why this is important for you.

The workaround I'd recommend would be to share the Smart Link URL through an InMail or LI message. By doing it, it won't add a thumbnail image and it only shares the URL.

Hope this is helpful and feel free to reach out in case you have any further questions.

Thank you,

Nádia
