Hi Community members,

In addition to saving searches (which I covered in the 4 Efficient Ways to Search post earlier this week), you can also create and build your own Custom Lists – of both Leads and Accounts – to keep your prospecting organized and up to date.

What Custom Lists Can Do for You

Custom Lists allow you to streamline your workflow and keep track of leads and accounts that matter most to you. They are also a great collaboration tool with the rest of your sales team: not only can you share Custom Lists, but you (and anyone you share them with) can also add notes to the accounts and leads within the list.

Check out the tips sheet here for more details on each of the following features that Custom Lists allow you do:

  1. Segment your pipeline based on what’s relevant to you
  2. Share your Lists with your team to collaborate more effectively
  3. Take notes and collaborate on a lead or account directly
  4. Prioritize your Lists with Sales Navigator Spotlights

Receive Alerts from your Lists

After you create your own Custom Lists, you will be able to get alerts on those accounts and leads right on your homepage in Sales Navigator. Below is a list of the most used types of alerts you will receive – when:

  • A lead starts a position at a new company
  • A lead has a change in position or job within current company
  • A lead views your profile
  • Someone at an account (who isn’t a saved lead) views your profile
  • A lead engages with posts from your company
  • A lead accepts your connection request
  • A lead is mentioned in the news
  • An account raises money
  • An account prepares to grow (when your saved account increases the number of job postings)

Find the explanation of all the alert types on this Help Center article.

*Pro-tip: You can also filter only the custom lists you want to see on your feed/homepage instead of all them at once.

Conclusion

Now that you know both the multiple, smarter ways to search within Sales Navigator and how to make the best use of Custom Lists, you are equipped to do more selling and save time on searching and prospecting! I am curious to know if there are any Lists you created based on a specific Sales Spotlight or an insight (i.e. job changes or an account raising money) that really helped improve your sales process.

I forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback. Thank you and happy Friday!

Eva C.

Eva, thanks for the overview of setting up Custom Lists, as I'm sure many of us have done

As far as I see, all the effort you put into segmenting Leads and/or Accounts into Lists is then lost on the homepage, which is simply a stream of Alerts from any saved Lead or Account. If we were able to filter this homepage stream by Custom List, that would be helpful. I believe someone made that suggestion but I've not been able to find it to upvote on the Ideas page

At the moment, the main feed is not very actionable, as it's a random mix - using the All Alerts dropdown filter still only selects that element from all Leads or Accounts, again losing focus

On a related note, the Custom List for Accounts has a Spotlight filter for "senior leadership changes in last 3 months". That narrows down the list. However, I've not been able to identify what (who) those changes are. If you click an Account name, you come to the regular Account detail page where there's no evidence of who's changed, neither under People or News/Insights, ie again, not very actionable. Am I missing something with this workflow?

Thanks, Barry

Hi @Barry D,

First, apologies for the late reply! Second, thank you so much for reading this post and asking such great questions!

To your first couple points, I understand how not being able to "filter by Custom Lists" on the Homepage really takes away time and loses that focus like you mentioned. @PEDRO M had the same idea you did earlier last month, and I answered his questions with some alternative solutions for now when can't yet filter by Custom Lists. If you take a look at my second reply/answer, you will also see what you'd need to search in the IDEAS portal to upvote this suggestion ("Filter Alerts by saved lists"). The good news is that it's been marked by the Product team as "Likely to Implement" so I would definitely upvote the idea. 😊

As to your last point, I see what you mean. Can you try checking the "News/Insights" tab when clicking into the Account again? I just tried it on SmugMug (random example) and was able to see two senior management changes (blacked out their names).

Another way I'm also able to see recent hires in senior management is on the Results page (circled in pink). If you click on it, the tile will expand and their names will pop up along with their new title. (I didn't show any here due to GDPR.)

Leadership changes

Can you check and try if these two ways to see senior leadership changes are available to you? If not, there could be a technical issue and we'd be happy to look into it for you. 🙂

Thank you so much again for the great feedback and let me know if you have further questions!

Eva C.
