Hi all,

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” As a sales professional, you may use many ways to connect with your potential buyers, and the first impression often dictates if there is a further opportunity to continue the conversation. In this blog post, we’d like to help you to craft your InMail messages to start with a good first impression and boost your response rate. Let’s see what tactics you can begin to use with your next prospect (hint, the focus is on the preview message 😉):

Personalize both the top and bottom of your InMail.

The first time your prospects’ eyes meet your InMail is the preview. However, they see the top of your message on mobile and the bottom of the message on the desktop. We recommend you personalize both to be as relevant to the receiver as possible.

If your message won't tweet, delete.

While you may have 1900 characters to craft your message, we found that shorter InMail messages perform a lot better. Based on insights from Linkedin, messages below 400 characters have an impressive 22% response rate. However, messages between 401 and 800 characters drop back to 3%, which can give some food for thought. Since it leaves you with a shorter message, we recommend focusing on starting a conversation rather than adding all information into the first interaction. As a best practice, start your conversation with a short, relevant, concise message.

Finally, are you looking for ways to provide the most value for the first time? Here are 2 bonus tips for you:

  • Ditch the formalities and unnecessary information.

  • Save the links and pdfs for later.

I would love to hear your thoughts and best practices around the length of the InMail messages and how you ensure that the preview is compelling to your prospects. Please share it in a comment below! 👇

Great Insights, is their any other statistic on SalesNavigator Mails?

How does this metric vary by Country?

Hi @Lume1 and @paul.flowers13 ,

Great questions! It would be great to add a more detailed view on the InMail length by country as it would reflect the cultural nuances in regards to response rate versus character used. We don’t have that more detailed statistic available to share, however, I found this other blog post that might add more insights on the actions you can take before reaching out and the best timing for seeing better results backed up with some interesting statistics:

I hope it helps and please let me know your thoughts!

Thank you @zita - This is a great read.
